Careers guidanceQueen Elizabeth’s Academy offers students a comprehensive programme of activities geared around taking the transition into further education and training, apprenticeships and employment.

These activities are designed to inform, inspire and motivate each individual, prepare them for work and understand where different education and training courses could take them in the future. We are supported in our careers programme by members of the local business community.

Additionally, the academy works alongside Business in the Community to provide further guidance together with high quality work experience opportunities for 13-18 year olds.

Some of the activities which support our students include tutor time studies, step-up days, whole year group CEIAG provisions, and utilisation of the U-Explore website. Each year group will have a different focus as detailed below:

Year 7 - What makes me unique? What are my dreams for the future?
Students consider what makes them unique and develop their self-awareness skills. They consider what their potential future might be by exploring interesting and inspiring options with the aim of widening aspirations.

Year 8 - Decisions, decisions, decisions
Students choose their key stage 4 options in this year so focus on decision-making skills. They learn how to make choices effectively and take part in lessons to raise aspirations around future career and education pathways.

Year 9 - The world of work
This focuses on exploring the world of work in more detail. Students learn about industry sectors, growth sectors and interesting jobs for the future, together with learning about employment contracts and working conditions.

Year 10 - Personal brand
Students in year 10 learn how to match themselves to jobs and how to write CVs/cover letters. They will develop their own personal brand and consider how to market themselves to employers.

Year 11 - What’s next?
In year 11 students create an action plan for their post-16 journey focusing on future aspirations. The outcomes of this year are very important and having a challenging, inspiring and realistic target/ ‘exit plan’ related to careers/education pathways and grades is paramount.

Our CEIAG programme at the academy provides confidential and impartial advice to students on:
- planning for the future
- choosing appropriate courses and pathways
- applying for college and university
- completing application forms, CVs and letters of application
- finding work or an apprenticeship
- mock interviews
