Shrove Tuesday celebrations

3rd March 2017

Shrove Tuesday celebrationsThis week food technology students from key stages 4 and 5 found out more about the traditions and history of Shrove Tuesday, together with enjoying a tasty practical session!

Did you know that ‘Shrove’ stems from the old English word ‘shrive’, meaning ‘confess all sins’? It is also called Pancake Day as it was traditionally the time to eat up any stocks of milk, butter and eggs as Lent starts.

Some of our students had never made pancakes before, so the practical aspect of the lessons was not only great fun but a way of developing new skills and understanding.
