A group of year 8 students from Queen Elizabeth’s Academy recently enjoyed an inspiring visit to Nottingham Trent University (NTU), gaining a valuable insight into university life and the opportunities it can offer.

The day began with the chance to meet current university students, who shared their experiences of studying at NTU. QEA students asked thoughtful questions about courses, daily routines and what university life is really like, helping them to build a clearer picture of higher education.

Students then took part in an informative session on student finance, which challenged common misconceptions and highlighted that university is an achievable option for young people from all backgrounds.

A guided campus tour followed, giving pupils the opportunity to explore some of NTU’s impressive facilities, including lecture theatres, the library, the student union, and even the university’s mock law courts and prison.

In the afternoon, students worked collaboratively to reflect on the skills they had developed throughout the day before creating academic-style posters to showcase their learning and experiences.

The visit formed part of a Nottingham Trent University programme designed to support students who meet specific widening participation criteria, helping to raise aspirations and encourage young people to consider the full range of opportunities available to them in the future.

The experience provided an excellent introduction to higher education and encouraged students to start thinking about their future pathways, ambitions and goals.

We would like to thank Nottingham Trent University for hosting such an engaging and informative day.
