Last week, QEA was honoured to welcome Steve Yemm MP and Holocaust survivor Tomi Komoly, in partnership with the Holocaust Educational Trust (UK).
This powerful event brought together students from across several schools to hear Tomi’s first-hand testimony of surviving the Holocaust as a young Jewish boy in Hungary.
Around 90 QEA students listened with deep respect as Tomi described witnessing German tanks enter Budapest, being forced to wear the yellow star, and enduring life in overcrowded ‘yellow star houses’ under the constant threat of air raids.
Tomi’s story – of loss, survival, and remarkable resilience – ended with a poignant warning: genocide happens in stages, and the early signs must never be ignored. His message was a vital reminder of the enduring importance of compassion, tolerance, and the courage to stand up against discrimination in all its forms.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Tomi Komoly for sharing his powerful story, and to Steve Yemm MP and the Holocaust Educational Trust for supporting such an important educational opportunity.
