Recently we received the fantastic news that the academy have been awarded the prestigious Association for Physical Education (afPE) Quality Mark, showcasing the strength of physical education and sport at the academy.

To achieve the award, our PE department had to undertake a self-assessment as part of the awarding process, together with visit from external validators to speak with staff, students, and to see sports sessions taking place.

The academy provides a wide-range of activities as part of the curriculum, together with a large choice of sporting clubs and opportunities for young people to develop as part of our enrichment offer. There is a drive within the academy to engage students with sport and activity to benefit their overall physical and mental health, together with proven advantages of better behaviour, increased attendance, and the development of key skills such as leadership, confidence and social skills.

Head of PE Mr Sisson says; “The PE department at the academy are delighted to have been presented with such a prestigious award. It rewards the hard work and commitment our staff put in to ensuring that physical education lessons are engaging, enjoyable and meaningful for all students.

We pride ourselves on catering for all children in terms of their sporting interests and abilities. All students are encouraged to show respect, develop teamwork skills, to be disciplined and to demonstrate good sportsmanship, being graceful in success and in defeat. The students who have supported this application have been brilliant, and I want to thank them for their input.

When the external validator visited us, she was blown away by the provision on offer. Students spoke about looking forward to their PE lessons, saying it relieved stress and gave them a sense of well-being, building their confidence.”

Queen Elizabeth’s Academy are currently the only secondary school in the Mansfield area to be awarded this prestigious Quality Mark, further evidencing the rapid improvement journey the academy is on since becoming part of Diverse Academies in 2016. Well done to all involved!
