Last week a large group of mathematics students from the academy visited Doncaster Racecourse as part of the ‘Racing to School’ programme. The education charity Racing to School delivers free outdoor learning activities for young people at racecourses, studs and trainers’ yards across the country.

On the day, our students took part in a variety of activities and got to see what happens on a typical raceday at one of the county’s top horseracing venues. The aim of the day was to demonstrate to the students about how the maths skills they are learning in the classroom can be applied in all areas of life, even at the racecourse!

The activities looked at maths skills such as estimating, percentages, ratios, measuring distance and speed, relationships, equations, shapes and so much more! A great day was had by all of our students and staff, with new experiences for many of those who attended.
